Thailand’s Department of Women’s Affairs and Family Development (DWF) says that, in order to solve the issue of prostitution in Thailand, society must first acknowledge its existence.
DWF Director-General Lertpanya Buranabundit said, during a strategic seminar, that to combat prostitution effectively, everyone needs to admit that it exists.
He added that education is an important factor in preventing young women from choosing the wrong path.
Lertpanya also cited the need to raise public awareness of the causes of prostitution and the impact it has on society. He further stated that those prostituting themselves are often less fortunate than others and need legal assistance.
She noted that the Prevention and Suppression of Prostitution Act, B.E. 2539, will be a major driver in combating the issue.
